Airport to Kigali Town: Kigali to Volcanoes Park: Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner Our guide will come and pick you up from the Airport to the Capital City – Kigali where you will start a tour of the small but relatively neat and organized city of Kigali. You will visit the Gisozi genocide war memorial site where you will learn about what happened during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. You should also visit the King's palace, local craft shops, and markets before lunch in the city. After lunch, you will begin the 2-3 hours journey to The Volcanoes National Park. The way to The Volcanoes National Park is full of beautiful scenery. You will find out for yourself why Rwanda is referred to as “The land of a thousand hills”. Once you arrive at the Volcanoes National Park, rest and prepare for the next day of gorilla trekking. Dinner and stay overnight on a full board basis. Gorilla Trekking: Village Tour: Meal Plan: Full Board After early morning breakfast, head out to the park offices at 7:00 am to attend a briefing on gorilla trekking. The head park guide in the Kinigi headquarters Musanze will share with you some important information related to gorilla trekking. briefing on gorilla tracking is a must-attend activity in order to learn about how to act while with the gorilla families. A gorilla safari to Rwanda involves selecting a gorilla family for tracking from 10 habituated gorilla families. We recommend that you select one based on your overall fitness. Then you will also need to hire a porter to help with your backpack. Gorilla trekking can be challenging but the excitement that comes with finally being about to see and watch the gorilla family makes it a worthwhile venture. While with the gorilla family, listen to instructions from the head park guide and avoid doing things that might provoke the gorillas. Gorilla watching is a one-hour activity after which you shall return to the starting point where your guide will be waiting for you. Go back to the lodge, have lunch, and rest as you wait for the evening activity after gorilla trekking. The driver/guide will take you to visit the Ibyiwacu cultural village which is located near the volcanoes national park in Musanze. Gisenyi Volcanoes Park to Gisenyi Boat Ride Duration: Meal Plan: Full Board After the tiring gorilla tracking adventure yesterday, you should wake up on your own time and take a late breakfast. Afterward, check out of the lodge and get ready to leave The Volcanoes National Park for Lake Kivu in Gisenyi. Lake Kivu is the largest freshwater lake in Rwanda and contains boiling gasses beneath. The lake spreads all the way to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Once you arrive, you will have lunch overlooking the lake and go for a boat ride while hoping between the different islands found in the lake. Dinner and overnight stay on a full board basis. Meal Plan: Full Board This is your day to relax on the sandy beach and explore the lovely Lake Kivu on your own. Gisenyi, with a population of approximately 250,000 is a resort city in the Rubavu district on the shores of Lake Kivu in the Western Province of Rwanda. The town is home to a number of resorts on the shores of Lake Kivu, where a number of hotels are found plus beautiful sandy beaches and warm waters ideal for water sports and beach leisure. The beautiful landscape villas, plush Hotels, and clubs take up virtually all of lake Kivu's frontage and are quite a contrast to the African township on the hillside above. Lake Kivu to Airport: Meal Plan: Breakfast Wake up on your own time and take breakfast before preparing for the journey back to Kigali. In case you missed touring the city of Kigali on the first day because of your arrival time, this will be the day when you will visit the different sites in the city.
